Wig caps are lightweight and extremely useful if your own hair is long or very thick.  Just tie it back and up and stretch the wig cap over your head and tuck any stray bits in.  Hey Presto, it ensures that your own hair stays hidden and also provides a very comfy fit for your wig.  Very like tights or stockings,  the fabric is thin and stretchy and seamless and not at all hot.  That said, not everyone wears them.  Some people prefer just to tuck their hair directly inside the wig.  It's down to individual choice, but they are very inexpensive so you might like to buy one and make up your own mind when you try it.
