Caring For Your Wigs, Hair Pieces and Extensions

DO NOT: Use any heated appliance on your wig, hair piece or extensions. This includes hair dryers, straighteners or curlers. 

Wash only in cold water, preferably using specialist wig care shampoo and conditioner. Soak for a few minutes, do not rub the wig, swirl around in water and then rinse in cold water. Blot dry with towel and then hang to dry on wig stand away from any direct heat.

Brush only when completely dry. Brush gently by laying the wig flat on a bed or table and press the top of the wig down so that minimum pull is exerted on the wig. You may also comb your wig. A large tooth or afro comb is good for this.

Never try to re-colour your wig, hair piece or extensions. It has been dyed and exposing it to colouring solutions will ruin it. Instead, order another wig in other colours – they are cheap enough to have several!

DO: experiment with your wig, hair piece or extensions. It is supposed to be fun and though you cannot re-colour synthetic wigs, you can style them by changing the fringe or parting and by adding other accessories such as head bands etc especially with long hair wigs. With practice, you can also cut your wig. You might find that the fringe is too long or that you would prefer the sides or back shaped differently. If you don’t feel confident yourself, you can always ask a hairdresser to cut it for you.
